The FAME Foundation Day of the Girl Child Initiative 2025

The FAME Foundation has announced its much-anticipated International Day of the Girl Child Event 2025.

The one-day event is scheduled for October 9th, at St Louis Grammar School Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria.

The FAME Foundation recognizes that girls need role models to help them become their best selves. This laudable initiative, themed “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis,” aligns with the United Nations General Assembly’s Resolution 66/170, adopted on December 19, 2011, which established the International Day of the Girl Child.

300 Senior girls will be able to connect with and learn from the most inspiring women leaders. This year’s event will cover several activities including inspiring talk sessions, dialogue, masterclasses and healthy debate, led by the girls and the most inspiring female leaders in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.

Last year 302 Girls were impacted and some of the distinguished guests and speakers at the event included the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Oyo State Government, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke Adefemi, and the Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Youth Initiatives, Titilope Gbadamosi.

Commenting, Raphael Stephen, Executive Director, of The FAME Foundation said: “In my work in girls’ education and as Executive Director of The FAME Foundation, I’ve seen first-hand the power mentorship can have. Peer role modeling profoundly affects young girls, especially when that role model is an inspiring female. Girls know their situations best and have lived experiences to share. We recognize the need to amplify girls voices as leaders in times of crisis and advocate for their rights and empowerment. It provides an opportunity to hear directly from the girls and listen to them share their vision for the future. Through this initiative, we can accelerate progress toward a future where every girl can position themselves as active agents of change even in crisis.”

In nearly a decade, the FAME Foundation has impacted over 20,000 girls directly and 60,000 girls indirectly across nearly 300 schools in Nigeria, trained and equipped them with leadership skills allowing them to find their voice and become better leaders, take on greater leadership opportunities, and become changemakers in their communities.

The FAME Foundation believes that through deliberate investments in girls’ education, we can foster a brighter future for girls and our nation.

FAME has built a record of accomplishment for nearly a decade by delivering high-quality leadership programmes to secondary school students across Nigeria.

“The anticipated outcomes of this initiative are substantial. The girls experience a mind-shift, see their worth, begin to envision, raise their aspirations, dare to dream, raise their ambitions, and believe they can be whoever they set their mind to become in life.”

The FAME Foundation Day of the Girl Initiative represents a pivotal moment for amplifying the voices of girls and advancing the cause of girl child education in Nigeria.
